Why the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned these 59 Chinese apps in India?
It has always been a matter of controversy that Chinese Apps breaches the data of Indian users and sell it to Chinese companies and third parties, which is the biggest threat to Indian Security. Recently, we faced the same controversy with video calling app Zoom and with the UC browser in the past. Since now, India is officially Boycotting Chinese Apps & Products to promote Make in India & Vocal for Local, it was necessary to ban such Chinese Apps which can be a threat to the security of Indians.
These Chinese Apps were used by millions of Indians and covering the large marketplace of India. Through these apps, Chinese companies were earning a major revenue from Indians, and Indian apps were getting neglecting throughout. For Example: Viral Chinese short-video sharing platform Tiktok nearly had 119 million active users in India, while the similar Indian Apps used to have very less traction in comparison to it. But in recent days, Chingari App– the viral Indian alternative of Tiktok App was downloaded by more than 2.5 million people in India on Google Play Store, which makes Tiktok loses its spark in India.
By banning these 59 Chinese Apps in India, the Indian Govt. has taken a big step towards the promotion of Indian Apps and fixed the issues like data breach by Chinese Apps.

Can people still use these 59 Banned Chinese Apps in India on their smartphones?
While Govt. has banned 59 Chinese Apps in India to download from Google Play Store or other App stores, these apps can still be used by those people who have already installed them on their smartphones. The only difference will be, people will not be able to see/refresh new feeds on these apps. But they can still use these apps on their phones and access the old videos available on apps like Tiktok, Helo, etc.
Among the list of 59 banned Chinese apps in India, some apps come pre-installed in smartphones and don’t require mobile data to operate. To completely ban the usage of such Chinese apps, the Government might need to talk to Internet Service providers to blacklist these apps entirely in India. Although the apps are not available on Google Play Store, there will be other alternative routes available to download these banned Chinese apps and It will be interesting to see how Government will impose the complete ban on these apps.
Conclusion:
We have shared the list of 59 banned Chinese Apps in India and their alternatives by Indians which are equally good and must be used by people in place of these banned Chinese apps. We must promote Make In India products & apps, only then we will be able to stand strong against countries like China, and this will serve the true purpose of campaigns like #BoycottChineseProducts or #BoycottMadeInChina.
